Meditation is one of the most beneficial aspects of yoga, and I’ve experienced its mental and physical effects firsthand. Here are some tips that helped me with my own meditation practice.

There’s a lot of benefit in simply doing nothing, and it’s not just for the mind. It…

I highly recommend trying meditation if you haven’t.

Today by chance..

I caught a bit of an interview with Deepak and Sanjiv Chopra on NPR. The whole segment was enlightening as usual but I really liked this quote that Sanjiv mentioned:

“To dare is to lose one’s footing momentarily. To not dare is to lose oneself.” - Soren Kierkegaard

Sometimes we all need to be reminded to step outside of what’s comfortable.

Happy Wednesday!

A year later this video is still nearly as tearjerking as the first time you see the end of My Girl (I know you 80’s and 90’s babies know what I’m talking about).

In all seriousness though, Arthur is nothing short of a transformation icon. This illustrates a sentiment that I am incredibly passionate about: It is never too late to make positive changes in your life. Never accept a declining body as your fate. Never let injury or weight gain define you. Your body was made to do amazing things, and you WILL get back what you put into it.

Be great today,

Another great Saturday morning at the farmer’s market!

Here’s what I picked up:

- 5 jars of homemade naturally (date) sweetened vanilla Almond Milk (I may actually develop a dependence on this stuff.)

- 1 large bag of vegan “Cheesy” Kale Chips

- 1 small slice of vegan/gluten/sugar free Pecan Pie with a pecan + date crust. {no refined sugars and this is literally better than any sugar-loaded pecan pie I’ve ever had // plus she uses locally grown organic pecans!}

I know. You probably hate them. I hated them once. I don’t know why, because now I LOVE them.

Here’s why you should too:

- They give you a total body strength workout.
- They can be modified in about a million ways from beginner to super advanced (backflip burpees, anyone?).
- They skyrocket that heart rate right up, so you’re getting strength plus high intensity cardio.
- Once you get better at burpees, you generally just feel like a Grade A badass while doing them.

So do your burpees this week!

Update! to Monday’s AMRAP Workout

The post below is the same as before, but I got a tweet (thanks Hayley!) reminding me that I forgot to post a modification for those of you who don’t have access to a Kettlebell!

No kettlebell, no fear! You can easily do the movement with two small dumbbells OR if you have no weights, just substitute regular Squats in for the Kettlebell Squat Pulls.

Monday Morning AMRAP Challenge!

//Alright y’all, time to bust out the curly-cue shoelaces and mid-calf white socks, we’re taking it back to middle school gym class with this one.

We went with 4 super simple movements [that will hopefully not bring back too many memories of being pummeled by dodge balls and horribly unflattering gym uniforms].

The most important thing to remember when doing an AMRAP {that’s As Many Reps As Possible (in a given amount of time)} is to NEVER compromise your form for speed. The idea here is to as many GOOD reps as possible in the seven minutes. Oh, you heard me right. A seven minute workout.//

Check it out:

7 Minute AMRAP: You’ll want to perform as many rounds of these four exercises as you can in seven minutes.

Here’s how you score: Say you get through three rounds of all four exercises, have done all 10 walking lunges, and 8 of the jumping jacks when your buzzer goes off - we would call that 3+18. So essentially calculate your score by the number of full rounds you do plus the TOTAL reps of any exercises you get through in that last round.

Try it out and let me know how you did!
